Free Google Maps scrapers: what $0 gets you
By Doug Nielsen, Product Manager · Updated · first published
$0 gets you hand-copying, Google's monthly Places API allowance, open-source software you run yourself, a browser extension or a hosted tool's free tier. None covers a whole market with emails: you pay in time, proxies or missing fields.
Disclosure: we make Hubertino, a free Google Maps scraper for your first 100 businesses, emails included and no card.
Key takeaways
- Copying by hand stops paying past about twenty businesses.
- Google's free API allowance fits a feature in your own app, not a prospect list with emails.
- Open-source scrapers are free software that you host, proxy and maintain.
- Test a hosted free tier on your real category and city before you pay.

Copying it by hand
Search, open each listing and copy the name, phone and website into a sheet: about a minute per business, worth it below about twenty. Emails take longer: Google Maps doesn't show them, so you visit each website.
Google's free Places API allowance
Since 2025, Google Maps Platform gives each SKU its own free monthly allowance instead of the old $200 monthly credit.
The catches for lead lists: results per search are capped (traditionally at 60), there's no email field, reviews stop at 5 per place, and Google's terms restrict storing and exporting the data beyond limited caching (Places API vs scraping).
- free calls a month per Essentials SKU
- 10,000
- free calls a month per Pro SKU

- free calls a month per Enterprise SKU
- 1,000
- per 1,000 Text Search requests, first paid tier

Open-source scrapers
The best-known is gosom/google-maps-scraper on GitHub: MIT-licensed, 36 fields per place, optional email extraction from websites, and a command line, Docker image or local web UI to run it. Its README quotes around 120 places a minute with tuned settings and says email extraction slows it considerably. The software is free; the machine, proxies and upkeep whenever Google changes its pages are yours.
Browser extensions
Free extensions scrape only what your Google Maps tab has loaded, usually with capped rows or fields, and a big job ties up your browser. How a cloud scraper differs: our comparison with Google Maps extensions.
Free tiers of hosted scrapers
Hosted tools handle the fetching, proxies and email hunting. Hubertino's 100 signup credits buy 100 businesses with phones, websites, emails and socials, with no card and no time limit. Outscraper and Apify's Google Maps Scraper also start free, with an allowance that renews monthly, and bill emails and reviews separately from listings (checked September 2026); their paid prices are in Outscraper vs Scrap.io vs Apify pricing.
