Web design leads: local businesses with no website

By Doug Nielsen, Product Manager · Updated · first published · Data: Google Maps, July–September 2026

Web design leads are local businesses without a website of their own, and Google Maps lists them by niche. Of the 70,643 top-ranked listings we sampled, 9% have no site or only a social or booking page. The share is highest among nail salons (30%), auto repair shops (23%) and coffee shops (21%).

What the data says (July–September 2026)

  • 9% (6,292) of the 70,643 businesses we sampled have no website of their own: 7.1% link none, and 1.8% only a social or booking page.
  • Nail salons top the list at 30%. In 86% of the 324 cities we sampled them in, at least one of the top-ranked nail salons had no site of its own.
  • The widest gap in any one country: nail salons in Australia, 54% of 268.
  • 2,022 of the businesses without a site have 100 or more Google reviews: 36% of those whose listing shows a count.
  • 87% of them list a phone number. Our email check reads the page a listing links, so it found none for the 4,553 businesses with no website in the samples it covered, and one for 26% of the 1,115 linking only a social or booking page.
How we counted

From 6,399 samples of the first Google Maps results for one industry in one city: 20 industries, 324 cities in five countries. About the data.

Niches ranked by how many lack a website

Each industry across all 324 cities: the share of listings with no website of their own, and how many Google reviews those businesses have, next to the median for the whole industry. The last column counts the ones with 100 reviews or more.

How we counted

No site of its own: out of all businesses sampled. Median reviews: of the businesses without a site whose listing shows a review count, left blank under 30; “all” is the whole industry's. Industry names link to each industry's lead lists by city.

Where the gap is widest, by country

Across all industries, the share runs from 6% in Canada to 11% in Australia. The widest pockets are nail salons in Australia (54% of 268), nail salons in the UK (46% of 514) and coffee shops in Australia (39% of 290). In some, a social or booking page stands in for a site: 24% of nail salons in the UK link only one, and 21% link nothing.

How we counted

No website, or only a social or booking page, out of the businesses sampled (the figure below each share). A cell with fewer than 30 businesses is left blank.

Who can pay: reading the review counts

Reviews roughly track how many customers a business has served, which makes them the best public proxy for whether it can pay for a site. Compare them within an industry, never across: the median restaurant in our samples has 1,132 Google reviews, the median accountant 27. In all 20 industries, businesses without a site of their own have fewer reviews than the industry as a whole. How many fewer is the useful part.

Where going without a site is common, the businesses doing it aren't marginal. Among nail salons, auto repair shops, coffee shops and hair salons, the median one without a site has 50–55% of its industry's median review count: 105 reviews against 197 for nail salons. Where it's rarer, the gap is steeper: dentists, chiropractors, gyms, moving companies, plumbers and HVAC contractors without a site have a quarter of their industry's median or less, which usually means a smaller or newer business than its competitors.

2,022 businesses in our samples have 100 or more reviews and no site of their own, 495 of them nail salons and 429 coffee shops. That is the list to start from.

From niche to first call

  1. 1

Pick a niche and a market

Start near the top of the ranking, in your own country's column. If you already have a site to show in a niche, start there even if it ranks lower: a comparable site you built is the most concrete opener you have.

  2. 2

Scrape it zip code by zip code

A single Google Maps search stops at roughly 100–120 places, and the first results are the most prominent businesses. Our figures come from those first results; further down the list, where the smaller and newer businesses are, the share without a site is probably higher. In Hubertino's Google Maps scraper, ticking a city selects its zip or postal codes and searches each one separately; zip-code scraping explains why that finds far more businesses.

  3. 3

    Filter the website column

In the export, a blank website means the listing links none. A facebook.com, instagram.com or booking-platform address (Vagaro, Fresha, Booksy, GlossGenius and the like) means a social or booking page stands in for a site. Keep both groups, in separate tabs: they take different pitches. Our guide to finding businesses without websites on Google Maps covers the filter step by step.

  4. 4

Enrich the rows before you call

Sort by reviews, highest first, and set a floor that fits your prices. Then fill in what the listing leaves out. The company_facebook and company_instagram columns can fill from Google's business panel even without a website, which gives you a second channel. Search a handful of names too: some businesses have a site their listing doesn't link, which is a smaller job but an easy first one.

  5. 5

    Call first, message second

87% of the businesses without a site of their own list a phone number. Email is the weak channel. Our email check reads the page a listing links, so it found none for the 4,553 businesses with no website in the samples it covered, and one for 26% of the 1,115 linking only a social or booking page. Open with what you noticed on their listing and one example of a site you built in their trade.

Cold outreach is regulated country by country (CAN-SPAM in the US, PECR in the UK, § 7 UWG in Germany, CASL in Canada, the Spam Act in Australia); our legal guide covers the basics.

Pitch angles the data supports

Busy, with nowhere to send customers

The 2,022 businesses with 100+ reviews and no site already have the customers. Lead with their own numbers (the review count and rating are columns in the export) and with what a site gives those customers that a map pin doesn't: prices, a menu or a booking link, and a page the business owns.

A booking page is not a website

13% of nail salons and 8% of coffee shops link only a social or booking page, and 24% of nail salons in the UK. Don't pitch them off the platform their clients book through. Pitch a site on their own domain that links to it or embeds it: the booking flow stays, and they gain a page they control.

Few reviews: keep the offer small

The median dentist, chiropractor and gym without a site has 32, 15 and 29 reviews respectively, against 300, 104 and 188 across their industries. Price for a business that size: a small fixed-price site plus a tidy-up of its Google Business Profile, rather than a proposal with a monthly retainer.

What a lead without a website costs

Hubertino charges one credit per row delivered, website or not, and you filter afterwards: a listing's website isn't known until it has been retrieved. At the shares above, 1,000 rows of nail salons hold about 297 without a site of their own, and 1,000 of law firms about 22. On the Starter plan ($19 a month for 50,000 credits, $0.38 per 1,000 businesses at full use), 1,000 such leads cost about $1.28 among nail salons and $17.56 among law firms. The 100 free signup credits cover a first test: about 30 nail salons without a site. These costs are before any overlap: neighbouring zip-code searches can return the same business, and each row it appears in is a credit, so deduplicate the export on place ID.

The rows with a site aren't wasted either: they are redesign prospects, and they are where the export's emails come from. Hubertino's pricing lists every plan and credit pack.

Common questions

How many local businesses have no website?

In our samples, 9% (6,292) of 70,643: 7.1% link none and 1.8% only a social or booking page, from 6% in Canada to 11% in Australia. These are the businesses Google shows first, so across every listing the share is probably higher.

Can I scrape only the businesses without a website?

Not in Hubertino: the website is only known once a listing is retrieved, so you scrape the niche and filter the spreadsheet. You pay one credit per row delivered either way.

Why not just buy a web design lead list?

A list you scrape yourself is dated the day you run it and cut to your niche and area, and you can re-run it next quarter to catch the businesses that opened since. A bought list is whatever its seller collected, whenever they collected it.

About the data

6,399 samples, each the first results Google Maps returned for one industry in one city (usually ten businesses): 20 industries in 324 cities across the US, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia, harvested July–September 2026. A business listed twice in a sample counts once. These are the same samples behind our lead lists and our study of which businesses publish an email; how the samples work.

“No website” means the listing links none. “Social or booking page only” means the link goes to Facebook, Instagram, Linktree, TikTok, LinkedIn, Yelp or a booking or ordering platform such as Vagaro, Fresha, Booksy, GlossGenius or OpenTable. Booking platforms we don't recognise count as a website, so the social and booking figures are a floor.

Top results, not every business: Google ranks prominent listings first, and cities, not towns, are sampled. Review counts are as shown on the listing when harvested, with misread counts dropped. Emails are counted only in samples where we checked websites for one.
